- Perform thorough physical examinations, review medical histories, and order diagnostic tests (labs, x-rays, etc.).
- Diagnose and treat minor acute conditions, including colds, flu, infections, and allergic reactions.
- Administer treatments such as suturing, splinting, wound care, and medication prescriptions.
- Provide follow-up care and instructions for discharged patients.
- Ensure proper documentation of patient care in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Collaboration :
Work closely with nursing and administrative staff to ensure smooth patient flow and timely care delivery.
- Collaborate with specialists for more complex cases and refer patients to emergency services if needed.
- Clinical Procedures :
Perform minor surgical procedures (e.g., laceration repair, abscess drainage, and removal of foreign bodies).
- Administer vaccines, immunizations, and routine screenings.
- Manage patients with urgent yet non-life-threatening medical conditions (e.g., allergic reactions, dehydration, and mild trauma).
- Patient Education :
Educate patients on preventive care, medication adherence, and lifestyle changes.
- Counsel patients on managing chronic conditions that may require follow-up care.
- Emergency Preparedness :
Recognize when conditions require emergency medical intervention or transfer to the hospital.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emergency medical procedures and treatments.
- Quality Control & Compliance :
Adhere to healthcare policies and legal regulations to ensure quality care.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA and other patient confidentiality standards.
- Participate in ongoing medical education to stay updated on best practices in urgent care.
Qualifications :
- Education : Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited medical school.
- License : Board-certified or board-eligible in Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or a related specialty; valid state medical license.
- Experience : Previous experience in urgent care or emergency medicine is preferred.
- Skills :
Strong diagnostic and clinical decision-making abilities.
- Ability to perform minor surgical procedures and manage acute care cases.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with patients and a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of EHR systems for accurate documentation and record-keeping.
