Job Summary
As a Product Manager for the Active Comms Team at Active911, you'll lead a small, cross-functional team to build and optimize real-time communication systems with radio integration, such as messaging, voice, and mobile-radio interoperability, that enhance emergency context, and empower first responders to collaborate effectively in critical moments. Your work will ensure seamless team coordination across radio and mobile platforms, boosting engagement and improving response outcomes for operational success. You'll collaborate with other product teams to support platform-wide success, partnering with marketing and sales to align communication-related features with go-to-market strategies that drives growth. Responsibilities
Define Product Vision and Strategy : Develop and communicate an engagement-oriented product roadmap for Active Comms, aligning with Active911's mission to deliver reliable real-time communication systems with radio integration that boost user engagement and collaboration for first responders and agencies.
Gather and Prioritize Requirements : Collaborate with first responders, agency stakeholders, and internal teams (e.g., sales, support, engineering) to identify high-impact features and pain points, prioritizing enhancements that maximize communication efficiency and user engagement.
Lead End-to-End Product Development : Partner with engineering, design, and QA teams to deliver scalable, cloud-native Active Comms solutions on time, achieving high system uptime, robust security, and seamless usability for messaging, voice, and mobile-radio interoperability.
Optimize User Experience : Champion intuitive interfaces and efficient workflows for real-time communication and radio integration, reducing message delivery or radio communication latency and enhancing user satisfaction to support retention and engagement.
Monitor and Improve Key Metrics : Define and track engagement-focused metrics (e.g., daily active users, message volume, churn rate, communication success rate) to measure product performance and drive continuous improvement.
Ensure Regulatory and Security Compliance : Work with legal and security teams to ensure Active Comms meets industry standards for data privacy and secure communication (e.g., SOC2, HIPAA), maintaining trust and supporting platform adoption.
Support Go-to-Market Initiatives : Collaborate with marketing and sales to develop messaging, training, and launch plans that highlight Active Comms' value, including radio integration, driving growth in feature adoption among first responders and agencies.
Manage Stakeholder Communication : Act as the primary point of contact for Active Comms, providing regular updates to leadership, cross-functional teams, and external partners on product progress, engagement metrics, and strategic decisions.
Balance Growth and Technical Excellence : Make strategic trade-offs between new feature development, technical debt reduction, and system scalability to achieve high uptime and support annual user growth while maintaining customer satisfaction.
Advocate for the Mission : Continuously align product decisions with Active911's mission to empower first responders, ensuring Active Comms delivers high-impact, collaborative solutions that enhance life-saving coordination.
Qualifications
Education :
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience :
3+ years of product management experience in a SaaS or technology company, with a proven track record of delivering revenue generating, user-facing products, preferably real-time communication or radio-integrated platforms.
Knowledge of agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban) and OKR-based goal setting, with experience driving product engagement through user activity and retention metrics.
Technical Expertise :
Strong technical background with experience working on cloud-native solutions (e.g., AWS, VoIP, radio-over-IP, Native iOS & Android Apps) for high-availability, real-time communication systems.
Experience defining and tracking KPIs (e.g., daily active users, message volume, communication success rate, system uptime) to measure product success and drive user engagement growth.
Knowledge of regulatory and security standards (e.g., SOC2, HIPAA) relevant to secure communication and data privacy in mission-critical applications.
Agile methodology experience, with proficiency in tools like Jira, Trello, or Confluence for roadmap planning and kanban management.
Leadership and Management :
Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams, collaborating with engineering, design, QA, support, marketing, and sales to drive product development from ideation to launch, with a focus on go-to-market strategies that achieve high feature adoption.
Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to align diverse teams and present engagement-focused updates to leadership and external partners.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, lean environment, making data-driven trade-offs between feature development, technical debt, and scalability to achieve high system uptime.
Passion for Active911's mission to empower first responders, with empathy for end-users (e.g., firefighters, EMTs, law enforcement) and a commitment to delivering collaborative solutions.
Preferred Qualifications :
Experience in SaaS platforms focused on real-time communication, messaging, voice, or radio integration systems.
Familiarity with public safety or mission-critical technology, ideally serving government or agency clients.
Preferred experience as a first responder (e.g., Fire, EMS, Law Enforcement, or Search and Rescue services) or experience in developing SaaS for use in public safety or emergency response.
Physical and Other Requirements :
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
Comfortable working in an office setting.
Availability for on-call duties in the case of an outage that may include some evenings, weekends, and holidays, given the mission-critical nature of communication systems.
Willingness to travel up to 10% annually.
Benefits
Salary Range : $115,000 - $155,000 annually
