Position Summary :

The Cook or Chef is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, culturally appropriate meals in a shelter environment that supports children and youth. This role requires a strong understanding of food safety, sanitation standards, and the ability to work efficiently in a high-volume kitchen. The ideal candidate will be passionate about food service, committed to the well-being of minors, and capable of maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming dining space. We are looking for a dependable team player who values consistency, compassion, and community care.

  • Program : Residential Shelter Services
  • Salary : $20.81 Hourly (Bi-weekly pay)
  • Location : West El Paso
  • Employment Type : Full-Time, Permanent
  • Work Schedule : Rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays
  • Travel : Minimal; may include occasional local errands or supply pickups.

  • Certifications : First aid, CPR, and Emergency behavior intervention training provided.

Qualifications Required :

  • MUST BE FLUENT IN SPANISH AND ENGLISH
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in food preparation or institutional cooking
  • Food Handler’s Certification (or ability to obtain upon hire)
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and stand for extended periods
  • Must pass background checks and health screenings
  • Experience working in environments serving children or vulnerable populations preferred
  • Key Responsibilities :

  • Prepare and serve daily meals and snacks according to menu plans and dietary guidelines
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen, dining areas, and equipment
  • Monitor food inventory and assist with ordering supplies
  • Follow all food safety regulations and agency protocols
  • Collaborate with program staff to support special dietary needs and meal accommodations
  • Participate in inspections, audits, and ongoing training
  • Promote a positive and respectful atmosphere in the dining area
