Description
Purpose : The Bilingual Employment Counselor (Spanish speaking) will align his / her work with Jawonio's Mission, incorporating Jawonio's Core Values as guiding principles for all activities.
Summary : Provides career development services for individuals with disabilities and / or those who are economically disadvantaged. Services include vocational assessments, work readiness training, self-advocacy training, job exploration, work-based learning, post-secondary options, internships or job placement, career development, benefits advisement, and job coaching. The Employment Counselor offers customized support to help individuals meet industry standards and liaises with employers to ensure their needs and satisfaction are met. The role supports both the individual and the business.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Collects, organizes, and analyzes information about participants through case records, interest inventories, interviews, and professional sources to assess interests, aptitudes, abilities, and personality traits for employment planning.
- Conducts individual and group counseling on job seeking and job performance skills.
- Delivers training curricula in person and / or via online platforms.
- Performs community-based assessments of vocational aptitudes.
- Assists job seekers with resumes, applications, interview skills, and provides support during interviews when needed.
- Provides ongoing, person-centered support and counseling, employing various approaches and techniques to help participants reach their potential and meet employer expectations.
- Monitors work performance through site visits or tele-practice, using observation, self-reporting, and employer feedback.
- Collaborates with professional support staff to evaluate and address individual needs.
- Schedules and participates in case conferences and Life Plan meetings to review goals, progress, and needs, recommending additional services as necessary.
- Completes mandated documentation for funding and regulatory agencies, including service logs, assessment reports, case notes, progress and billing reports, job placement / termination reports, and service plans.
- Works with agencies like Social Security, Department of Social Services, and others to address benefits issues related to Public Assistance, Medicaid, SSD, and SSI.
- May conduct intake meetings, open cases with ACCES-VR, research eligibility, and process applications.
- Provides crisis intervention in collaboration with mental health professionals.
- Transport individuals to interviews, work, or appointments as needed.
- Participates in staff meetings, mentoring, and team activities.
- Models appropriate social and work skills.
- Attends all required meetings and training sessions as mandated by the agency and funders.

Qualifications
A Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university or at least 1 year of experience working or volunteering with people with disabilities, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
