Summary
The Laboratory Technical Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the Mechanical Testing Laboratory. This includes staffing, equipment issues, and technical support. This is accomplished through direct supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor, Laboratory Testing Engineer and Laboratory Technicians.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Individual has the responsibility to ensure internal customer requirements for product quality are addressed.
- Manages and staffs the Laboratory Supervisor, Laboratory Testing Engineer, and the Laboratory Technicians.
- Responsible to maintain awareness of latest technologies for Mechanical testing through industry interactions outside of WPP and Audia.
- Serves as a resource for standards interpretation for other Audia companies
- Responsible for working with the Management Representative for resolution of Quality Incident Investigations.
- Manages the development and implementation of processes, work instructions, and test methods
to satisfy laboratory compliance to ISO / IEC 17025 requirements.
Represents the Mechanical Testing Laboratory for Contract Review of testing activities performed for external customer requests, reviews the results, and issues Laboratory Reports to the external customer.Responsible for keeping Engineering Standards and Specifications updated to ensure the most current version of test methods and customer specifications are being followed.Coordinates outside testing activities for testing requirements that are not accredited or cannot be performed in-house.Interacts with the Technology, Manufacturing Purchasing, and Sales & Marketing Departments on issues that involve the Mechanical Testing Laboratory.Leads team to ensure the lab is meeting targeted testing turnaround times and implementing plans to improve if not compliantAudit leader of Mechanical Lab for A2LA, UL, NSF, Factory Mutual, IATF and regulatory agenciesEnsures lab is prepared to accommodate customer visits and tours of the labMeasure and report on weekly OEE performance of lab to supervisor and quality leadTracking and submitting payroll for teams' standard pay and overtimeParticipates in business and capital project planning to ensure the lab is equipped to keep up with growth goalsOrganize and maintain lab documents storage for archiving purposesPerforms other duties and assignments as directed by supervisor.Recommended Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in relevant field like Chemistry or Material ScienceA minimum of 5 years of experience in the plastic industry with a strong command of testing methods and equipmentStrong analytical and data-driven problem-solving abilities with at least a basic working knowledge of statistical techniques.Working Conditions
