Overview
Entry Level Highway Engineer at Modjeski and Masters – start your career with one of the nation's leading bridge engineering firms. Location : New Orleans, LA. Level : Entry Level (0–4 years of Highway Design experience).
As a Highway Design Engineer, you will work on challenging bridge and highway projects under the supervision of experienced professionals, with opportunities to interact with clients and influence projects across the lifecycle.
What You'll Do
- Coordinate with technical staff to perform non-structural engineering tasks, including development of plans, specifications, and cost estimates under direct guidance from Project Managers and senior engineers.
- Highway design tasks including roadway geometrics, drainage, permanent signage and striping, intersections, work zone traffic control, guardrails, and Transportation Management Plans (TMPs).
- Develop conceptual plans for feasibility studies.
- Assist with statements of interest, technical proposals, and, occasionally, field assignments.
- Review and check standard highway design calculations and drawings.
- Develop contract plan details using CAD software.
- Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing; provide technical writing for design reports and feasibility studies.
- Perform quantity take-offs from contract plans and coordinate with subconsultants for topographic and property survey, geotechnical services, traffic analysis, and environmental permitting.
- Use engineering CAD and analysis software such as Bentley MicroStation / InRoads / OpenRoads, AutoTurn, HYDRO programs, HEC-HMS, and HEC-RAS.
What We're Looking For
At minimum a BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university.A valid EI certification, or in the process of obtaining.Ability to learn and apply relevant design guidelines and policies, including :AASHTO : Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets; Roadside Design Guide; Guide for Planning, Design and Operation of Pedestrian Facilities; Guide for the Development of Bicycle Facilities.FHWA Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).State DOT-specific Highway Design Policies and Guidelines.Why Join Us?
