SENIOR ENGINEERING INSPECTOR

Working under general supervision of the Engineering Inspection Supervisor performs technical inspections of roadway, bridge, drainage, building and park construction, including construction within the County right-of-way, on private development projects, and other work sites under County jurisdiction.

  • Performs inspections of County right-of-way before, during, and after installation of improvements.
  • Reviews plans and record drawings for construction within County Rights-of-Ways for compliance with County standards.
  • Inspects existing County facilities / infrastructure and documents existing conditions.
  • Reviews & documents contractor installed erosion control measures.
  • Attends pre-operation, pre-construction, and progress meetings and provides IRC Engineering Division expectations to the contractors / developers.
  • Enforces IRC Public Works standards of construction for work occurring within County right-of-way.
  • Documents and communicates failures in contractor / developer quality control and construction practices.
  • Provides both written and verbal summary of construction status to Engineering / Management Staff.
  • Investigates water or flooding conditions, complaints, etc. in the County's right-of-way. Gathers field data and condition descriptions that are necessary to address concerns.

Education / Experience

Associate's degree and four (4) years or more of inspection and supervision of civil construction work sites, or six (6) years of construction experience of roadways, drainage, and subdivisions.

Licenses, Certifications or Registrations

  • Must possess a valid Class E Driver's License.
  • Must possess or obtain FDOT CTQP Certifications within one year of hire.
  • Must possess or obtain NPDES Stormwater Inspector within one year of hire.
  • Must possess or obtain FDOT ASSHTO / ATTSA Maintenance of Traffic Certifications within one year of hire.
  • Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

    Knowledge of tools and equipment used for roadway & site construction.

    Knowledge of the standard testing methodologies for earthwork, asphalt and concrete.

    Knowledge of basic surveying principles and practices.

    Knowledge of basic engineering principles as they relate to civil roadway and site construction.

    Knowledge of standard Florida Department of Transportation Maintenance of Traffic processes and procedures.

    Ability to interpret drawings, plans and specifications.

    Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.

    Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

    Effectively and professionally use electronic communication, word documents and spreadsheets for the purpose of documenting field conditions and observations.

    Ability to maintain professional working relationships with internal County staff, outside engineering consulting staff, utility agencies and contractors.

    ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

  • Work is performed outside under various types of weather conditions.
  • Must be able to traverse uneven surfaces typical to natural terrain, roadway and site development construction sites.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 20-lbs.
