Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) – Level 2
The SSHO Level 2 supports the project's safety program in compliance with USACE / NAVFAC EM 385-1-1, OSHA regulations, and project-specific Accident Prevention Plans (APPs) . This role ensures that all construction activities are executed safely and in accordance with federal, client, and company standards. The SSHO Level 2 works under the direction of the SSHO Level 1 or Site Safety Manager, assisting in daily inspections, hazard analysis, and safety enforcement across the project site.
Key Responsibilities :
- Perform and document daily site safety and health inspections in accordance with EM 385-1-1.
- Support implementation of the Accident Prevention Plan (APP) Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) , and site-specific safety procedures.
- Enforce compliance with USACE / NAVFAC safety requirements for all subcontractors and site personnel.
- Maintain safety logs, reports, training records, and documentation required by contract.
- Assist in incident and near-miss investigations , root cause analysis, and corrective action tracking.
- Participate in Preparatory, Initial, and Follow-up QC Meetings to provide safety input.
- Conduct and support toolbox talks, safety meetings, and employee orientations
- Act as a liaison with the SSHO Level 1, QC staff, and project management team to ensure a proactive safety culture.
Qualifications :
OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety & Health certification (required).Current First Aid / CPR certification (required).Completed EM 385-1-1 training (40-hour, or refresher as applicable).Minimum of 3–5 years of construction safety experience , preferably on federal, USACE, or NAVFAC projectsFamiliarity with Accident Prevention Plans, Activity Hazard Analyses, and EM 385-1-1 safety requirementsStrong communication and leadership skills with the ability to enforce safety standards.Experience conducting safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations.Ability to work collaboratively with project management, subcontractors, and field crews.
