Network Engineer (Network Professional 3)
What You Will Do
We are a customer-focused group responsible for the architectural design, implementation, and maintenance of LANL's open and secured institutional networks. The Network Professional 3 will work on a team that provides network architectural design to the Laboratory's 24 / 7 supported network.
As a trusted team member, you will assist with the planning and configuring of LANL's institutional networks. You should be a well-rounded in majority, if not all, areas of network engineering including but not limited to the following : routing / layer 3 (BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VRF, etc.), switching (VLANs, STP, etc.) WAN / VPN, cloud computing, network segmentation, wireless, security, and information security / compliancy (i.e., NIST RMF), are among areas of focus. This position requires a skilled professional with an inquisitive, analytical mind that constantly looks for solutions to difficult problems. You will report directly to the team lead, upper management, and should be able to communicate technical topics to non-technical personnel.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements :
Education / Experience : Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications :
Essential Job Functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation) : Bend lift and move 30 lbs, drive and operate a motor vehicle, ability to use a ladder.
Work Environment :
Work Location : The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite / partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location.
Position commitment : Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
