Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking to hire a geologist to support the remediation team in Alpharetta, Georgia. This position will conduct field work planning, site audits, collection and documentation of soil, rock, groundwater, surface water, vapor samples, remediation oversight, site assessments and evaluations. This role also includes oversight of subcontractors, production of maps, data interpretation / evaluation, and deliverable preparation.

Your Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and assist with scoping and scheduling field investigations.
  • Oversee and conduct soil, soil vapor, and groundwater investigations.
  • Conduct ongoing groundwater well development and sampling for routine monitoring events.
  • Oversee monitoring well drilling and installation.
  • Oversee and conduct soil and rock core logging and sample collection.
  • Oversee and conduct hydrogeologic evaluations, including slug testing and pump tests.
  • Oversee and implement groundwater and soil remedial actions, such as injection events, removal actions, as well as remedial system oversight.
  • Conduct site evaluations and prepare reports such as Phase I ESA's.
  • Fieldwork, including regional travel, when necessary.
  • Site health and safety planning and completing work safely.
  • Collect, interpret data, conduct analyses, and compare findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Compile, evaluate, analyze, and present / report subsurface investigation data, including preparation of site layout and cross section figures.
  • Understand engineering plans and specifications under the direction of a professional engineer.
  • Prepare health & safety plans, work plans, reports, and other technical documents.
  • Review, communicate, and manage the project health and safety plan so that project personnel, client and subcontractors are aware of risks and hazards, and incidents are prevented.
  • Coordinate and oversee subcontractors, including health and safety management.
  • Control project tasks cost, schedule, and quality of work.

Capabilities and Credentials

  • Proficient in policies and procedures for HSSE, including client-specific training, leads by example, and applies these policies and procedures as appropriate to their work
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, geologic logging and field boring log preparation
  • Solid skills in technical writing
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Strong analytical skills, and attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with both clients and project team members
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once and meet strict project deadlines
  • Ability to travel regionally and locally as required for proposal and project needs
  • Good driving record and valid driver's license required
  • Some travel involved
  • 40-Hr HAZWOPER training (preferred, but not required)
  • Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Geoscience, Geology or related field
  • Minimum 0-6 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather
