Upperbody Exterior Systems Trim / Ornamentation Engineer

Overview

This position involves the up-front (2-3 years ahead of production) architectural design of forward model upperbody Exterior Systems Trim and Ornamentation subsystems. Primary responsibilities include design and assumption ownership of a vehicle upperbody set of subsystems with the goal of meeting overall system metrics (such as piece cost, quality, weight, investment, design / manufacturing feasibility, attributes, and timing). The position often requires co-development of new materials, features, and technologies. Responsibilities

• Design advanced / pre-program Exterior Trim and Ornamentation components (such as Exterior Moldings, Roof Racks, and Running Boards).
• Coordinate with all stakeholders (Planning, Marketing, Studio, Finance, Vehicle Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, etc.) to achieve functional requirements and timing.
• Implement prior program Prevent Recurrence Actions on forward models to address recognized issues and improve quality.
• Prepare Bill of Materials (BoM) with associated cost, weight and assembly flow documents.
• Support 3D package studies to resolve incompatibilities within systems quantitatively (both 3DX and Catia V5).
• Prepare "Attachment C" decision matrices for execution option assessment to determine optimal forward direction.
• Prepare and present technical studies to peers and management.
• Interface with Design Studio on feasibility and cost implications of various themes.
• Create design packages for initial supplier sourcing, vendor tooling, internal manufacturing, and other customers of developed early designs.
• Serve as Engineering lead for subsystem sourcing activities coordinated with Purchasing, Cost Estimating, Finance, and Program.
• Co-Develop advanced features, technologies, and materials.
• Benchmark relevant competitive sets for efficient designs (both virtual and in-person).
• Assess designs against internal design rules / requirements and external regulatory and public domain requirements.

This position is a range of salary grades 5-8.
