Principal, Data & Analytics Engineer – American Water
Overview
The Principal Data and Analytics Engineer is a key resource within the Data Analytics and Data Management organization. This individual is part of a team responsible for all data services and analytics that underpin the enterprise data platform that support custom applications, dashboards, and advanced analytics.
Key Responsibilities
- Takes ownership for all technical aspects of data and analytics product solutions including custom code, third-party applications, and integrations.
- Evaluates technical alternatives and feasibility and produces functional / technical designs that offer the best solution to data and analytics problems and requirements.
- Identifies, implements and maintains data and analytics solutions in conjunction with a development team and collaborates with teams to establish new product design objectives, including systems requirements and validation criteria.
- Provides hands-on expert-level assistance to developers and ensures optimal data delivery consistent throughout ongoing projects.
- Leads technical activity within the area of specialization and mentors and develops team members to improve capacity for project work.
Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or related field (equivalent work experience will be considered).Minimum 12 years of experience working in the technology field with an additional minimum of 3 years in data and analytics area.Deep knowledge of data and analytics, including AWS, Azure, Databricks, Snowflake, Python, Airflow, Kafka, and analytics tools such as Quicksight, Tableau, PowerBI.Strong verbal and written communication skills, proven ability to deliver presentations to a wide variety of audiences.Excellent decision-making ability, balancing what is right with what is realistic and flexible to adjust to multiple demands.Experience & Skills
Expertise with a broad set of interdisciplinary technology specialties (data, mobility, GIS, collaboration, infrastructure).Demonstrated ability to apply technologies to solve practical problems in a high-tech development environment with multi-function teams for large, complex systems with minimal direction.Experience with analytics, building dashboards, and data science, including Jupyter Notebooks, AI, Machine Learning.Data Engineering experience with AWS, Azure, Databricks, Snowflake, Python, Airflow, Kafka.Competencies
