Laboratory Assistant -Mon-Fri 8 : 30am-5pm

The Laboratory Assistant has the following duties :

  • Ensure that all tasks are performed within time restraints and according to relevant quality and safety policies and procedures.
  • Assist with sample receipt, sort and layout.
  • Complete necessary sample preparation traceability information as required.
  • Perform and document calculations as required when conducting analytical preparations.
  • Assist with sample retention and disposal procedures.
  • Assist with receipt of supplies and reagents, completing necessary traceability information as required.
  • Assist with storage and disposal of client samples.
  • Monitor inventory levels for supplies and reagents.
  • Assist with the preparation of simple solvents for test methods.

Follow all company operating procedures, standards, policies, and training to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the site.

  • Play an active role in the ALS safety program by correcting or reporting unsafe acts and conditions that are observed during the day to day operations to create a zero-injury work environment.
  • Participate in and support HSE initiatives, as required by ALS leadership.
  • Understand and use HSE precautions (such as but not limited to fume hoods and PPE) while working with chemicals and samples of unknown hazards.
  • Ensure the health and safety of staff, contractors, and / or visitors by providing appropriate leadership, due diligence, resources, training, and enforcement for all individuals onsite.
  • Required Qualifications :

    High school diploma / GED is required.

  • 0-3 years of laboratory experience is preferred
  • Must have good computer skills, including Microsoft Office products, LIMS, and Internet based reference libraries.
  • Attention to detail and good communication skills.
  • High energy level, confidence and ability to thrive in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends.
  • Physical Demands :

  • The ability to stand for intervals of up to 8 hours while working.
  • Able to speak and hear clearly while communicating with co-workers and managers.
  • Dexterity in hands and fingers to operate equipment and handle glassware.
  • Must have average vision and able to see to read reports and operate equipment.
  • Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
