Job Description

Thrive in an environment where every moment counts. UPMC Northwest hospital in Seneca, PA is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse for our Emergency Department to provide expert, compassionate care when patients need it most.

Schedule : 3 (12-hour) shifts per week (days or nights, every other weekend / holiday)

Status : Full Time

Responsibilities :

Provide compassionate, patient-focused care using the nursing process within a Relationship-Based Care model. Develop daily goals and holistic plans of care in partnership with patients and families.

Assess and communicate patient needs —clinical, social, psychological, and spiritual—while documenting comprehensively to ensure seamless care across providers.

Educate patients and families for safe transitions of care and recovery, applying adult learning principles.

Support and mentor others by precepting new staff and students and fostering an environment of open dialogue and continuous learning.

Promote a safe, high-quality practice environment by identifying and reporting safety hazards and participating in unit-specific quality-improvement initiatives.

Engage in professional development through shared governance, evidence-based practice, and ongoing education to advance patient outcomes and nursing excellence.

Model professionalism and teamwork by maintaining positive relationships, demonstrating accountability, and balancing work–life commitments.

Education & Experience : Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

2 years of critical care experience strongly preferred.

Skills : Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. Able to work effectively in a complex, fast-changing environment and operate specialized equipment. Demonstrates age-specific knowledge to assess and meet patient needs.

Professional Traits : Builds positive, caring relationships with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams. Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and patient positioning.

Flexible Scheduling : Options include rotating / flexible shifts, night or weekend programs with premium pay (requires 6+ months RN experience).

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances :

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIH)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Registered Nurse (RN) OR Temporary Practice Permit (TPP)
  • Act 33
  • Act 34
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
  • Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
