DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this position, you will be responsible for conducting routine, scheduled, and emergency maintenance on the tunnels and portal buildings. Your tasks will involve manually cleaning gutter lines, inlets, and the drainage systems, as well as sweeping garages, outdoor plazas, tunnel offices, and fan floors. Additionally, you will be tasked with painting facilities, repairing structural components of the tunnels, and clearing debris from upper air-chamber floors and roof areas. It is also essential to maintain cleanliness around the facilities and tunnel entrances by picking up litter and mowing grass to ensure the grounds are well-kept.
You will also engage in incident management by responding to events that disrupt traffic flow. This includes utilizing various equipment, tools, fire extinguishers, and materials to assist motorists and first responders in restoring normal traffic conditions. Your responsibilities will encompass towing or pushing disabled vehicles, managing traffic control, removing debris, and performing minor repairs on motorists' vehicles as needed.
Monitoring the conditions within the tunnels is another critical aspect of your role, as you will be tasked with overseeing traffic flow, carbon monoxide levels, fire hazards, over-height vehicles, and any other incidents that deviate from standard operations. Effective communication is vital; therefore, you will need to maintain clear and concise interactions with PennDOT employees and first responders through phone, radio, and face-to-face conversations to ensure situational awareness is upheld at all times.
