Position Overview :

The Hamilton Township Public Library, serves patrons from one central location within the Township of Hamilton (Mercer) County New Jersey. The Library Board of Trustees is seeking a dynamic, experienced leader to serve as Library Director. The Director will continue to develop the collection while implementing expansion of information technology, electronic books, media and services to meet the needs of our 21st Century patrons.

The Library Director has a high level of responsibility and accountability. He / she will administer library services in compliance with all applicable laws, policies and decisions of the Board of Trustees and will manage the library staff, insuring their compliance with job requirements and professional standards.

The Director prepares, implements and monitors the library's annual budget, provides monthly reports and budget updates to the Board of Trustees; attends regular meetings of the Board of Trustees and maintains all official financial and statistical records. In addition the Director prepares all required compliance reports and continually monitors progress towards achieving the goals of the Library's strategic plan.

Hamilton Township is a vibrant and diverse community of nearly 90,000 people in central New Jersey. The Library Director will be expected to support cultural, educational, professional and recreational needs by continuous development of relevant and appropriate materials, programs and services for patrons of all ages. The successful candidate will possess considerable ability in dealing with the public and represent the library as a public relations liaison at local, state and professional functions.

Qualifications : Candidates for the position of Library Director will possess a graduate degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited College or University and a minimum of five years of management experience in a Public Library setting. All candidates should have experience in long range and financial planning as well as superior technical and grant writing skills, considerable knowledge of personnel law and professional library principles, materials and practices. The new Director must have the courage of his / her convictions; possess and utilize strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills while overseeing library daily operations and building management. Compensation : The Library Director position is a Civil Service position that is also unionized. The current range is $115,869 to $139,422.
