Assistant Engineer I

Role Overview Under the direction of the Design Manager, the Assistant Engineer I will design and prepare construction plans for new water facilities, including pipelines, booster stations, reservoirs, and related site and street improvements. This role is ideal for recent graduates or early-career engineers with strong technical training and a passion for water infrastructure design. Key Responsibilities Design and prepare construction plans for water projects Prepare construction bid packages and quantity takeoffs Develop grading plans, hydrology, and hydraulic reports for site development Prepare street cross sections, fence, and wall profiles Perform field surveys and related project work Prepare engineering reports and technical documentation Other tasks and duties as directed by management Required Qualifications Education : Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (recent grads welcome) Must have a minimum “B” average; transcripts required Candidates pursuing or aspiring to obtain their EIT certification are strongly encouraged Experience : 0–3 years of professional experience in engineering or design (maximum) Solid understanding of standard concepts, practices, and procedures within water systems Technical Skills : Proficiency in MicroStation / J and AutoCAD Civil 3D Familiarity with GIS-related software Experience with CADD and drafting techniques Ability to perform hydrology / hydraulic calculations and design water distribution projects Strong general math ability Other Requirements : Valid California driver’s license with acceptable driving record Ability to follow technical specifications and produce neat, accurate drawings Strong written and verbal communication skills Professional demeanor, punctuality, and dependability Ability to perform physical activities including walking, standing, sitting, reaching, bending, grasping, stooping, digging, climbing, and lifting up to 50 lbs Graduates from the following universities are highly encouraged to apply : Cal Poly Pomona Cal State LA Cal State Northridge UCLA USC Cal State Long Beach UC Irvine CalTech Loyola Marymount University (LMU)
