The Structural Designer must be able to provide innovative packaging solutions and manufacturing layouts in a timely manner. They must lead efforts to ensure the production facility can efficiently produce new designs while acting as packaging subject matter expert for the team.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop structural design solutions for paper-based packaging (folding carton, corrugated, rigid box). Experience with non-paper packaging materials a plus.
- Create stepped layouts and cutting die files for maximum efficiency in manufacturing.
- Manage design projects and maintain effective communication to sales, customer service, and manufacturing.
- Ensure new designs are created for optimum efficiency for production.
- Create high-end, flawless packaging prototypes for customer presentations.
- Create organized, clear, and consistent specifications, dielines, and BOMs.
- Ensure all designs meet customer testing standards.
- Follow direction of the management team to ensure proper design protocols and procedures are followed.
- Be able to interpret concrete and abstract direction from customers, sales and management to develop a solution that exceeds customer expectations.
- Work collaboratively with design team members to identify and develop the best possible packaging solution.
- Effectively communicate reasoning behind design decisions.
- Maintain clear organization of large ongoing projects involving a multitude of components and revisions.
- Remain up to date on new packaging trends, materials, and technology.
- Create 3D renderings including conceptual packaging design, exploded-view schematics, and detailed assembly instructions.

Required Skills Required Experience
3+ years experience in the structural design of packaging.Degree in packaging, industrial design, or relevant field a plus.Experience in cutting die manufacturing a plus.Must understand the entire design process from concept, prototype, testing, and production.Must have a sense of urgency.Demonstrated experience in developing innovative solutions for paper-based packaging. Experience working in product design and non-paper packaging a significant benefit. Experience in education and publishing industries a plus.Advanced knowledge of ArtiosCAD required. Basic knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft products preferred. Solidworks experience a plus.Knowledge of packaging testing procedures- ISTA, TAPPI, ASTM.Occasional Travel may be required.Bilingual (English / Spanish) a very significant plus.Qualifications :
Knowledge of customer service concepts and practice. Knowledge of multi-line telephone systems operations. Knowledge of privacy laws and regulations. Knowledge of basic medical terminology and clinic systems. Skill in typing a minimum of 30 wpm. Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in operating office equipment such as copiers and fax machines. Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other employees. Skill in reviewing, researching, processing, and troubleshooting difficult matters.
