Job Description
The Respiratory Therapist provides for assessment, evaluation, planning and documentation of care provided to patients with cardiopulmonary disorders in the following age groups : infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. This care will be delivered in accordance with established standards of performance in accordance with the philosophy, goals and objectives of Pender Community Hospital.
- Documentation is accurate, timely, and complete
- Assembles, maintains, and calibrates respiratory therapy equipment per manufacturer guidelines
- Assists with patient care in Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehabilitation
- Communicates assessments and updates with applicable members of the healthcare team.
- Participates in discharge planning.
- Monitors inventory and key supplies and restocks when necessary.
- Troubleshoots equipment problems and promptly reports all equipment malfunctions to management.
- Applies effective interviewing skills to elicit information from patient and / or family that is necessary to treatment.
- Performs patient education
- Performs respiratory specific procedures such as but not limited to :
Chest Physical Therapy
BiPAP & CPAP TherapyArterial puncture for the purpose of blood gas analysis, after proper certificationVentilatory supportInhaled medicationsElectrocardiograms (ECG)Holter and Event MonitorPulmonary Function TestApplication and monitoring of oxygenCardiopulmonary resuscitationBronchopulmonary hygieneCar seat challengeHours : Minimum 36 hours / week, Monday-Friday, 8- or 12-hour shifts
Education and / or Experience
Minimum of an Associate's DegreeTwo years' experience as a Respiratory Therapist preferredThe candidate must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of all procedures, indications, contraindications and hazards involved in respiratory care and knowledge of life support equipment.The candidate must be able to demonstrate the ability and knowledge required to utilize computers for patient documentation and data gathering for quality care.Active Member of AARC preferredEmergency Room, Critical Care, Pediatric, and Neonatal experience preferredCertificates, Licensure, Registrations
Graduate of a recognized COARC or JRCRTE / AMA Respiratory Care Educational ProgramCurrent / Active license to practice Respiratory Therapy in the State of NebraskaMust have BLS certification upon hireACLS, PALS, & NRP within one year of employmentGENERAL REQUIREMENTS :
