GENERAL DESCRIPTION :
The purpose of this position is to work with the general public, development community, and elected and appointed officials regarding land use policies, regulations, and zoning. Responsible for maintaining accurate knowledge of adopted codes and regulations so as to review projects and provide advice to the communities listed above. This position serves in a shared planner role to provide technical planning and development assistance, including but not limited to research, administrative assistance, preparation and presentation of rezoning and Board of Zoning appeals requests, and other planning and administrative functions as determined on the basis of staff availability, expertise and assignment by supervisor. This role may serve as acting director in absence of Planning Director.

Requirements :
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :
Knowledge of adopted and proposed ordinances and codes.
Knowledge of permitting and mapping software.
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft© Office Suite software products; ESRI ArcGIS© software products; and Adobe Photoshop© (or similar) graphics software.
Customer service skills.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
General clerical and organizational skills.
Ability to use critical thinking skills in the interpretation of County adopted codes and regulations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
High School Diploma or equivalent degree in a related field, and one (1) year of planning or related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Some college is preferred.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS :
Required : None.
Preferred : American Institute of Certified Planners, American Planning Association. Certified Floodplains Manager, Association of State Floodplain Managers.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
The work is sedentary work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and / or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
This position has the following special vision requirements : close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more); color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors); peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up or down and to the left and right when vision is fixed on a given point); depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships); adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).
WORK ENVIRONMENT :
Work is performed in a relatively safe and secure indoor and / or outdoor work environment; may encounter noise, weather, extreme temperatures, moisture, humidity, dust, or odors.
