Neurodiagnostic Technologist I

Job Summary :

The Neurodiagnostic Technologist I is responsible for performing Electroencephalograms (EEGs) studies in the Laboratory and at the bedside of patients. Also, performs video / EEG monitoring, and ambulatory monitoring, etc. Is qualified to provide a descriptive analysis of the waveforms and patterns relevant to their credential, however, is not responsible for interpretation or clinical correlation of the data.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions :

  • Testing

Sets up and performs test procedures with little to no supervision.

  • Identifies and performs basic and intermediate technical troubleshooting and artifact identification and eliminations.
  • Understands and follows concepts of digital equipment and electrical safety within the EEG unit.
  • Has knowledge of alternate montages, protocols, and alternate equipment settings and their effects should be applied.
  • Can use photic stimulation and hyperventilation appropriately.
  • Understands why and how to repair or fill bad electrodes.
  • Removes electrodes and cleans up the patient after the EEG done to practice protocols and safety standards.
  • Familiar with the protocols for completion of the technical EEG report, charging procedures, and logging the patient into files.
  • Knowledgeable in correct EEG performance and recognition of clinically significant events and intervenes if appropriate.
  • Maintains the patients safety through communication to other patient care support staff during the EEG if needed.
  • Contacts higher level staff as appropriate for problems within the EEG unit.
  • Stocks supplies and prepares patient rooms for EEG procedures.
  • Performs any other related duties that are consistent with patient and technical care for this level.

  • Calls the Bio-med department with any equipment problems and maintenance issues.

  • Communicates with the physicians regarding the EEG study results.
  • Attends and actively participates in monthly department staff meetings.

  • Completes core and annual competencies according to established departmental timelines.
  • Completes all educational requirements required by discipline to maintain licensure.
  • Participates in orientation and training of new employees.
  • Completes all mandatory hospital and / or system mandatory requirements
  • Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

    Required Minimum Education :

  • High School Diploma General or GED General
  • Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s) :

  • BLS - Basic Life Support within 30 Days or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor within 30 Days or BLS-P - Basic Life Support-Provisional (30 Days) within 30 Days
  • Additional License(s) and Certification(s) :

  • REEG.T within 2 years Required
  • Required Minimum Experience :

  • Less than 1 year Pathway I Graduate of CAAHEP Accredited NDT Program Documentation of 50 EEGs post graduation Preferred
  • Required Minimum Skills :

  • Registry Eligible High Strong well-developed communications skills.
  • Medium Well developed PC and Microsoft Windows knowledge (keyboard skills), customer service, ability to function without much supervision.
