Everyone Is a Caregiver
At UMass Memorial Health, everyone is a caregiver - regardless of their title or responsibilities. Exceptional patient care, academic excellence and leading-edge research make UMass Memorial the premier health system of Central Massachusetts, and a place where we can help you build the career you deserve. We are more than 16,000 employees, working together as one health system in a relentless pursuit of healing for our patients, community and each other. And everyone, in their own unique way, plays an important part, every day.
Sharing experiences from their own journey as a caregiver, the Family Partner, under the direction of the Family Partner Supervisor, provides Family Support and Training (Caregiver Peer-to-Peer Support)-a service that involves a structured, one-to-one, strength-based relationship between a Family Partner and a parent / caregiver. The purpose of this service is for resolving a youth's emotional and behavioral challenges by improving the capacity of the parent / caregiver to parent the youth. Through a mentoring relationship a Family Partner works to improve the parent's functioning to support the youth in the community or to assist the youth in returning to the community. Specific activities include education, assistance in navigating the child serving systems (DCF, education, mental health, juvenile justice, etc.); fostering empowerment, including linkages to peer / parent support and self-help groups; assistance in identifying formal and community resources (e.g., after-school programs, food assistance, summer camps, etc.) support, coaching, and training for the parent / caregiver. Caregiver Peer to Peer Support services seek to help achieve goals in the individual child / youth's plan.
