Job Title : Quality Inspector

Job Description

The Quality Inspector plays a crucial role in ensuring that incoming materials and finished popcorn products meet customer specifications, company standards, and regulatory requirements. This position combines hands-on production quality checks with formal QA responsibilities, making it ideal for candidates with experience in food quality who excel in dynamic environments.

Responsibilities

  • Fully support QA and Operations management throughout the production process.
  • Engage with Operations and Production to prevent and resolve quality issues on the floor.
  • Audit production to ensure quality standards are consistently met.
  • Perform pre-operational and operational inspections in accordance with GMP standards.
  • Carry out monitoring and verification activities per the HACCP plan, including metal detector checks.
  • Conduct quality checks, such as label inspections, lot code verification, net weight checks, and organoleptic evaluations.
  • Verify and calibrate equipment like scales, thermometers, and refrigeration units.
  • Follow hold / release protocols for nonconforming ingredients or finished goods.
  • Perform environmental swabbing, ATP, and allergen testing.
  • Assist with nutritional label review in compliance with FDA guidelines.
  • Stop production if the product does not meet quality standards and place the product on hold.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, ensuring all employees follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Document all activities accurately and submit daily reports using company templates.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 6 months of food quality experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written instructions.
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, and Word, and data entry.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams.
  • Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Leadership experience (1 year preferred).
  • HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) certification.
  • SQF (Safe Quality Food) certification.
  • PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) certification.

    Work Environment

    We have two current openings for 1st and 2nd shifts. The 1st shift runs from Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 3 PM, with potential for weekends and overtime. The 2nd shift is from Monday to Friday, 3 PM to 11 PM, also with weekends and overtime as needed. The work environment prioritizes safety and cleanliness, adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).

    Job Type & Location

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Norfolk, Virginia.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $20.00 / hr.
