- Our Story : Max's Best Ice Cream is a family operated business. As lifelong residents of Maryland and the local community, Max's Best Ice Cream fulfills a lifelong father-son dream to open an ice cream shop. Max's Best Ice Cream is named after the family's son, Max, who has always wanted to serve "the best ice cream... in the whole entire world." We decided to get started in Bethesda first!
- Our Ice Cream : Our premium, farm-fresh ice cream is sourced from a local creamery, Vanderwende's Farm Creamery, in rural Delaware. Max's Best Ice Cream is the first shop to feature Vanderwende's ice cream in Bethesda, Maryland and the broader Washington, D.C. region.
- Our People : Max's Best Ice Cream has partnered with Best Buddies International to employ individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through the Best Buddies Jobs program.
- Our Community : Best Buddies is also a co-owner in Max's Best Ice Cream so a portion of the proceeds from every customer's purchase will help to further Best Buddies' work in the community.

JOB DETAIL
TITLE : Shift Supervisor
LOCATION : Max's Best Ice Cream, 7770 Woodmont Ave, Bethesda MD, 20814
REPORTS TO : Ownership
Position Summary : A positive team player focused on producing quality ice cream creations, focused on encouraging fellow team members to do their best work, fiercely passionate about exceptional customer service and committed to maintaining an impeccably clear and orderly space for our team and guests.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following :
Leads the team by example providing excellent standards of customer service while participating in ongoing refinement of steps of service.Provides ongoing coaching for the associates to help maintain quality of product in a clean environment served in an expedient manner.Scoops ice cream and prepares menu items as necessary in accordance with company standards.Oversees accountability and discipline for associates in accordance with company policy, and when necessary, terminates employees.Maintains a safe and clean environment for customers and employees, leading team to complete assigned tasks as necessary and overseeing contracted vendors.Oversees staff food handlers' certificates, ensuring each employee is in compliance with State and county requirements at all times.Customer Service
Greet guests warmly and answer any menu-related questions.Assemble and serve valued guests all menu items for both dine-in and take out orders.Expedite incoming orders from Ice Cream Associates to ensure quality control and efficient serviceAssemble and serve valued guests all menu items for both dine-in and take out orders.Serve delicious ice cream scoops, milkshakes, sundaes, floats, and other menu items with precision and care.Prepare assembly stations for milkshake, sundae, and float creation, including portioning and setting pars for the upcoming shift.Handle special requests or dietary restrictions with attentiveness and professionalism.Verify customer age for alcoholic beverages and ensure compliance with all legal alcohol service guidelines.Order Fulfillment and Transactions
Take guest orders efficiently and accurately and promptly deliver guest orders and provide receipts with a smile.Process guest purchases using the point-of-sale (POS) system, handling cash and card transactions.Turn in cash till and cash out to supervisor at the end of each shift.Inventory and Vendor Orders
Receive, check, and organize orders from vendors to ensure proper stock levels.Manage inventory levels during service to help Ice Cream Associates quickly fulfill guest ordersNotify and manage inventory needs or discrepancies in shipments.Cleanliness and MaintenanceMaintain and clean and order store - both front and back of house - at all times.
Maintain the cleanliness of the counter area and assembly stations, equipment, and utensils throughout the shift.Restock serving supplies, such as cones, napkins, and utensils, as needed.Follow health and safety guidelines to ensure food handling standards are met.Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills)
High school diploma, GED certificate, or demonstration of sufficient reading and math skills to read manuals, prepare food costing, and prepare computer reports as requiredPrevious restaurant experience required.Previous management experience leading a team required.Willingness to work mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays as required.Strong communication skills to train and motivate employees.Strong time management skills and accuracy to deal with a variety of duties and prepare reports according to schedule.Food Handlers certification for Bethesda required.Liquor handlers certification for Maryland and Montgomery county required.Physical Demands and Work Environment
The work that restaurant managers do is both physically and mentally demanding. They are on their feet much of the time. Managers must work well under pressure and exercise tact and patience when dealing with employees and customers. Managers typically work over forty hours a week because the restaurant serves the public and are open six days a week, managers may work longer, irregular hours.
