Job Summary

The Aircraft Mechanic III - Low Observables will primarily perform all scheduled and unscheduled aircraft and equipment maintenance, both on and off equipment, on assigned aircraft and equipment in accordance with the Performance Work Statement (PWS), M1 policy, DAFI 21-101 (and supplements), as well as industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains repairs / modifies aircraft structures and structural components and engines of complex to extreme difficulty.
  • Maintains and repairs aircraft components including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components.
  • Applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions and restores equipment condition and operation.
  • Interprets technical data such as blueprints or manufacturers' manuals to solve complex problems.
  • Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting / repair procedures and replacement of components; knowledge of aircraft sheet metal / structural modification and repair; ability to determine functionality of non-complex electrical systems.
  • Familiar with tools and equipment such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers, etc.
  • Work in a cross-utilization environment and on other assigned MDS aircraft.
  • Perform at a moderate level of competency in one or more areas such as : repair and reclamation, egress, electro / environmental, avionics, wheel & tire, sheet metal, composite repair, propulsion, fuels, AGE, armament, munitions, non-destructive inspection (NDI), and pneudraulics.
  • Maintain aircraft and support equipment forms / records in accordance with AF procedures utilizing AF Information Systems and forms as required.
  • Perform transient aircraft support, CDDAR team duties, Phase dock, QA augmentation, and Wheel & Tire duties.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 8 years performing as a Low Observables technician in a military environment and attainment of a US Air Force 7 level (or equivalent).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain any Special Access Program (SAP) requirements for this position. Working knowledge of MIS systems, forms documentation, and adherence to aircraft technical data.
  • Reliable, self-motivated, able to work under stress and timelines while maintaining professionalism.
  • Assist other personnel and work centers as directed; perform other duties as assigned.
  • Make entries in aircraft logs / records and provide guidance to lower-level technicians during modifications and maintenance.
  • Provide technical support to structural / mechanical engineers and customers.
  • Excellent organizational skills to prioritize workload to meet aircraft delivery schedules.
  • May lead teams on complex tasks and may enter aircraft logs / records as needed.
  • Working knowledge of aircraft systems, maintenance directives, data reporting, and use of technical data is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of Air Force supply and efficiency reporting procedures is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of handling, use, and disposal of hazardous waste / materials is mandatory.
  • Must obtain / maintain the government customer security clearance as required.
  • Maintains qualifications on the Special Certification Roster (SCR) as directed.
  • Current valid U.S. Driver's License; ability to read / write / speak English; high school diploma or GED.
  • Working Conditions

  • Work in aircraft hangars and on aircraft ramps, near running equipment.
  • Work days, nights, weekends, or overtime as required; may work outdoors in hot / cold weather.
  • Possible exposure to contaminants, hazardous conditions when on scaffolding or ladders, loud noise.
  • Utilize PPE such as safety toe footwear and safety glasses.
