Job Overview
Performs duties conducting on scene fire and explosives investigations, including latent investigations to determine point of origin and cause of fire.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; and
- Two years of experience in the field of fire origin ad cause determination; or
- Four years of experience in law enforcement and / or criminal investigation; and
- Possession of a valid Driver's License; and
- A minimum of two of the following State of Florida Certifications :
Possession of a valid State of Florida Firefighter's Certificate of Compliance
Possession of a valid State of Florida Law Enforcement CertificationPossession of a valid State of Florida Fire Investigator CertificationPossession of a valid State of Florida Municipal Fire Safety Inspector CertificationAdditional Requirements for Some Positions

Responds to and investigates fires and explosions to determine the cause and origin.Solicits information from and interviews suspects, witnesses, owners, and occupants.Conducts crime scene investigations including documenting the fire scene through the useof photographs and detailed sketches and diagrams, searching area for physical evidence,and making determinations on the value of property due to fire, smoke, and water damage.Collects, secures, packages, and transports physical evidence in accordance with chain ofcustody directives.Conducts criminal investigations involving arson related crimes and apprehends suspects.Provides sworn testimony during legal proceedings to provide an accurate account of theinvestigation.Prepares and maintains written fire and police reports of investigative findings.Responds to fire alarms for fire suppression, as directed.Maintains all fire investigation equipment to ensure its readiness.Conducts latent fire investigations as required.Performs other related duties as required.This classification description is not intended to be, nor should it be construed as an all-inclusivelist of the duties associated with a particular position. Special Probationary Notes
