Instrumentation Technician

Performs intermediate technical work troubleshooting, repairing, calibrating, or replacing instruments used for water and wastewater treatment, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Instrumentation Technology Manager.

Troubleshoots, repairs, calibrates, and / or replaces process instruments for water and wastewater treatment systems.

Troubleshoots, repairs, and / or replaces programmable logic controllers (PLCs) components; troubleshoots communication systems for lift station and water telemetry.

Calibrates safety gas monitors, personal and permanently installed systems; calibrates State reportable instruments including flow meters, temperature, chlorine, and turbidity.

Specifies and procures materials for use and maintaining a spare part inventory.

Interfaces with vendors, contractors, supervisors, all operations departments, and engineering to ensure continued correct operation of all pump stations, lift stations, water and wastewater plants, and telemetry systems.

Education and Experience

Associates / Technical degree with coursework in electronics and / or instrumentation, or related field and moderate experience working with electronics, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of the use of electrical and electronic test equipment, basic hand tools, troubleshooting techniques.

General knowledge of Microsoft Office and Operating System software products.

Ability to read and understand electrical schematics, process instrumentation and pneumatic diagrams, technical manuals; use various levels of math to calculate unit conversions, flow rates, ratios, and percentages; develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates and management.

General knowledge of water and wastewater systems, radio communication systems, programmable logic controllers, variable frequency drives are a plus.

Physical Requirements
