Purpose

Provide extensive knowledge / expertise in environmental acoustics, sound measurement, and noise control services to support public and private clients. Conduct technical analyses, develop mitigation strategies, and deliver expert guidance in support of permitting, compliance, policy development, and community engagement for a wide range of projects.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Direction

Receive general direction from senior technical leaders while independently managing assigned projects.

Provide technical leadership in sound measurement, analysis, and modeling.

Serve as liaison in acoustics, representing the firm with clients, regulators, and stakeholders.

At the Operational and Company Level

Plan and execute noise impact assessments for mining, infrastructure, industrial, energy, transportation, commercial, and recreational projects.

Develop and apply acoustical models (e.g., CadnaA) to predict sound propagation under varied environmental conditions.

Design noise control and mitigation strategies for compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on permitting, planning, and environmental studies.

Prepare and deliver technical reports, testimony, and public presentations to agencies, commissions, and courts.

Contribute to the development of policies and best practices for noise management.

Do the Work

Develop environmental noise analyses for industrial, utility, and transportation clients, to satisfy federal, state, or local acoustic criteria. Environmental acoustic analyses include noise monitoring, modeling, and mitigation design.

Travel to projects to conduct ambient and operating sound surveys.

Prepare technical deliverables, including environmental assessments, permitting documents, and compliance monitoring reports.

Provide training and mentoring to colleagues on acoustic tools and methodologies.

Stay current with advancements in noise control engineering, modeling techniques, and regulatory frameworks.

Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Acoustical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field required.

Five or more (5+) years of professional experience in environmental noise analysis, modeling, and control.

Experience across multiple industries (e.g., mining, renewable energy, transportation, parks / recreation, commercial development) preferred.

Board Certification in Noise Control Engineering (INCE Bd. Cert.) preferred.

Membership in the Institute of Noise Control Engineering and / or Acoustical Society of America preferred.

Salary and eligible variable compensation (if any) commensurate with experience. Range $85,000 - $125,000 and includes a comprehensive benefits package.

Physical Demands and Working Environment

Primarily indoor professional office environment, which can consist of possible bright / dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.

Mobility around an office environment.

Some outdoor work environment and may be exposed to outside weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and / or potential hazards.

Mobility around a job / construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets and fax machines.

Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.

Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.

Occasionally reaching outward or above shoulder.
