Responsibilities Supervises managers and supports them in managing of their teams. Coaches and advises managers on the operations of their location.

Works with managers to help set direction.

Participates in employee discipline and termination, as needed.

Leads monthly Branch Manager meeting.

Makes regular and special visits to locations observing operations and condition of facility.

Responsible for customer service training and oversight for branch staff / mission enhancements. Engages with external customers to resolve conflict; Set standards for customer service; Resolve customer issues involving multiple departments; Plan and coordinate customer service initiatives.

Hires and trains management and work with managers on hiring of all branch staff. Hires managers and assistant managers; Trains managers and provides professional development opportunities; Works with HR on the hiring process of branch / mission enhancement staff; Provides oversight in the hiring process for all branch / mission enhancement staff.

Participates in planning, implementation and communications of system wide procedures, programs and services. Facilitates communication between branches and departments; Coordinate services between branches and departments; Serves as a member of the libraries cross functional “tactical” team; Works with departments to create system wide guiding principles.

Education and Experience Masters of Library Science Degree Required; 5 years library and / or supervisory experience preferred.

Leadership Competencies Advanced verbal, written, and discreet communication skills with management, coworkers, and the public in a clear, timely, and proactive manner.

Ability to collaborate with Library leadership to effectively develop, adhere to, and work within the constructs of the library’s budget.

Advanced ability to maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with multiple stakeholders.

Reliable, punctual, and flexible with scheduling.

Advanced knowledge of a public library’s mission and purpose, ability to provide clear expectations and direction, to manage competing priorities, to evaluate quality of work, and provide feedback and accountability.

Advanced knowledge of department processes and procedures, expert knowledge of Library Professional Ethics, advanced knowledge of the impact of decision-making on MCPL, and demonstrated mature judgment to make department-level / system level decisions.

Advanced proficiency in customer service skills through polite, professional, and collaborative interactions with internal and external customers.

An advanced understanding of the role of MCPL leaders at all levels in creating a welcoming and respectful workplace and library for all.

Job Knowledge, including Librarianship

Advanced knowledge of Intellectual Freedom principles is necessary to perform this position at a satisfactory level.

Sufficient ability to train staff on intellectual freedom practices.

Technology including specific applications, hardware, and coding languages. Intermediate knowledge of Paycor, Teams, Microsoft Office 365 applications including Word, Outlook, Excel and Teams is necessary to perform this position at satisfactory level.

Demonstrated aptitude to quickly learn other library operations software. Ability to train staff on technology.

Communication : Knowledge of how to communicate in multiple formats with various audiences. Advanced verbal, written and confidential communication skills with management, coworkers, and the public as necessary to perform this position at a satisfactory level. The ability to effectively communicate at an advanced level on the phone, in person, and via email, with both internal and external customers, demonstrates satisfactory performance of this position. Demonstrates advanced confidentiality and discretion regarding employee information and all administrative matters related to the work assigned in order to perform this position at a satisfactory level.

Financial / Mathematical : Creates and oversees multiple budgets. Works with software to manage and organize data from various sources. Ability to manage budget and prioritize expenses exhibits a satisfactory performance in this position.

Teamwork : Advanced knowledge of the importance of teamwork and collaboration within departments is required to perform this position at a satisfactory level. Demonstrates advanced proficiency in the ability to maintain effective working relationships with others. MVR Requirement : Possession of a valid driver’s license and a reliable personal vehicle for use in carrying out the duties of this position including transportation of materials and equipment (mileage reimbursed).

Work Environment (Indoor / Outdoor) Works both indoors and outdoors and must have considerable tolerance for weather conditions, dust, mold, scents, allergens, and communicable diseases which enable the employee to work outside at a facility, handle construction and library materials, work in older buildings and on jobsites, and interact with coworkers and the public.
