Be the first line of protection at Mon Valley Works

Join U. S. Steel as a Security & Emergency Operations Technician and combine EMS, firefighting, and security skills to safeguard a complex industrial site.

Role highlights

  • Respond to plant-wide emergencies : patrol calls, fires, and medical incidents.
  • Operate fire apparatus and associated equipment; assist with suppression and prevention.
  • Execute fire and security duties, including patrols, inspections, and scene control.
  • Document events through thorough investigations and formal reports.
  • Support technical rescue (rope and confined space) and HazMat Operations-level tasks.

Environment & schedule

  • Heavy industrial setting across multiple areas of Mon Valley facilities.
  • Exposure to hot, cold, dirty, greasy, wet, and noisy conditions.
  • Rotating shifts required, including Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Overtime as operational needs dictate.
  • Minimum qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Pennsylvania EMT or National Registry EMT (or higher).
  • 2+ years’ experience spanning medical, fire, and security work.
  • Firefighter I (Pro Board or IFSAC) — required.
  • Proven ability to perform under pressure in time-critical emergencies.
  • Competence in investigations and report writing.
  • Hazardous Materials Operations, plus rope and confined space rescue proficiency.
  • Preferred

  • Paramedic or Advanced EMT credential.
  • Hazardous Materials Technician.
  • Association Firefighter 1 / 2 certification preferred.
