Description :

The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Nurse will provide care to hemodynamically stable or predictably unstable patients in a cardiac medical surgical unit.

This includes providing physical, emotional, spiritual, and cultural support to the patient.

Anticipated patient populations include but are not limited to pediatrics, pre and post PCI care, pacemaker, revascularization, carotid endarterectomy, thoracotomy, CHF, COPD, DKA, renal failure, DVT, PE, sepsis, and a broad scope of surgical services.

Staff will expect patients to be in relatively stable condition while recognizing diagnoses that may require skilled assessment and intervention tools for potential deteriorating conditions.

The nurse will be required to operate advanced medical equipment including central lines, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, continuous bladder irrigation, A-lines, multiple IVs, and care for patients requiring short-term ventilation support.

They will also provide care for general medical and surgical patients on the inpatient unit.

The nurse should have the ability to assess and implement established policies and procedures with minimal supervision.

They will act as a clinical leader and assist with precepting staff.

The nurse will provide direct care for patients from admission to discharge in all aspects of care including discharge planning.

Education required includes a high school diploma or equivalent and a degree from an accredited nursing program.

Knowledge of advanced nursing principles and procedures, critical care, CVICU, and open heart experience is preferred.

Skills required include the use of basic office equipment, operation of multiple IV pumps, advanced medical equipment including A-lines, invasive lines, chest tubes, and patients requiring noninvasive and invasive ventilatory support, as well as basic cardiac telemetry and EKG interpretation.
