Position Summary :
Home Delivered Meals (HDM) Driver assists the agency in meeting the nutritional needs of its clients by delivering meals daily, while providing limited socialization through contact with program participants. The HDM Driver also helps ensure the well-being of clients by providing a regularly scheduled check-in.
Job Responsibilities and Performance Standards :
Deliver meals to clients on assigned route within the timelines established by the program.
Communicate to office when clients are not home and wait at client residence for the office for directions. Integrate the use of assigned smartphone as a daily function of the meal delivery.
Deliver additional items as needed, including but not limited to nutritional supplement drinks, shelf stable meals, handouts, fliers, first aid supplies, or service information as needed.
Clean and sanitize meal delivery equipment daily.
Assist, as requested, with covering additional deliveries when there are open routes.
Assist, as requested, in the training of new drivers.
Attend all meetings and trainings.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations
Report to the office any changes in a client that cause concern. Examples include but are not limited to : disorientation, poor health, unsafe living conditions, utilities out of order, suspected abuse.

Attendance and Punctuality : It is imperative that staff be reliable and arrive to work on time.
Respect & Courtesy : Everyone deserves and should expect courteous treatment, whether in person, on the phone or in correspondence. All employees should consistently maintain a positive and congenial attitude. Drivers must be patient with both clients and co-workers in the meal delivery process.
Cultural Sensitivity : Recognize and demonstrate a commitment to cultural sensitivity.
Commitment : Commitment to SCES’ mission can be shown in many ways such as, assisting with special projects within the agency, participating in related efforts or professional associations, creating or furthering an initiative that reinforces the mission.
Willingness to help : Due to the direct service nature of the job, drivers must be willing at times to take on additional stops and help cover routes. Additionally, they may be called upon to collaborate with other agency staff to confirm client’s well-being.
Qualifications :
Current Massachusetts Driver’s License and good driving history.
Access to a dependable and properly insured transportation.
Dependability (e.g. : consistent attendance, timeliness, and follow-through on job to completion).
The ability to lift 50 pounds.
Sensitivity to the needs of the populations served by the Home Delivered Meals Program.
Strong (English) verbal communications skills.
Knowledge of Somerville / Cambridge area strongly preferred.
Physical Environment :
The position works in the community receiving and delivering meals. Meals are delivered in inclement weather, including rain, strong winds and snow.
Social / Psychological Conditions :
Occasional stress due to clients experiencing hardship, experiencing dissatisfaction, as well as urban traffic conditions.
Physical Effort :
Frequently sits, stands, walks, bends, reaches, climbs stairs, and stoops throughout the day.
Frequently lifts, pulls, pushes, and carries up to 50 lbs.
Periodic eye strain and light ear strain.
