Overview
The University of Connecticut Department of Dining Services has an opening for an Assistant Area Manager. This position reports to the Area Manager or appropriate designee and assists in providing supervision and leadership within the Department of Dining Services. The role focuses on delivering high-quality services with a first-class college dining program, superior culinary experiences, and excellent customer service. The position may require working weekends and possibly until 11 : 00 pm during the week.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a floor manager, supervising front and back of the house operations; be accessible to all employees, provide ongoing training, and encourage customer feedback through regular interaction.
- Operate and maintain an efficient food production and service system; ensure safe and sanitary conditions in line with standards, laws, policies, and regulations.
- Directly supervise production and maintenance operations in assigned residence halls or food production areas; create work schedules, prioritize tasks, and provide guidance to staff.
- Oversee the computerized food waste tracking system and train staff on its usage.
- Conduct training programs for Dining Service employees and evaluate training needs.
- Participate in planning menus and providing nutrition education for students.
- Develop and update product specifications; assist in ordering food and beverages and ensure safe and sanitary receiving of supplies and food.
- Maintain records (including financial and student personnel records) and prepare reports as required.
- Identify areas for improvement in services, cost effectiveness, facilities, and other operational areas to meet changing needs.
- Promote Dining Services programs and maintain good customer relations; resolve complaints promptly.
- Perform other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Foods and Nutrition, Institutional Management, related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Four years of relevant experience.Ability to obtain ServSafe Certification within 12 months of start date.Experience supervising foodservice staff.Knowledge of food ordering, storage, sanitation, and inventory control.Knowledge of menu planning, quantity food preparation, merchandising, and service.Strong interpersonal skills for effective work relationships.Demonstrated commitment to, understanding of, and / or experience working with diverse populations.Preferred Qualifications

The salary for this position is $64,405. The University offers benefits including employee and dependent tuition waivers at UConn.
