Overview

POWER Engineers is seeking a Substation Physical Engineer to work in the Power Delivery Substation Department in our Augusta, Maine office. A hybrid work environment is available, with residency within driving distance of the office.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate within a team to complete complex and technically challenging aspects of electrical utility substation design, adhering to client standards.
  • Perform the detailed physical design of medium to extra high voltage utility substations. Typical design deliverables include one-line diagrams, physical layouts, equipment selection, general arrangement plans, sections and elevations, control building design, cable and conduit plans, ground grid design, lightning protection, yard lighting, material lists, and AC / DC systems sizing and calculations.
  • Develop engineering documentation such as RFIs, scope documents, equipment specifications, protection and control descriptions, and construction specifications.
  • Work with CAD designers / drafters to develop drawing packages.
  • Coordinate designs with other disciplines (Substation Protection & Control, Structural, Civil).
  • Participate in quality assurance and quality control programs.
  • Contribute to engineering proposal development and to project scheduling and budget management.

Required Education / Experience

  • Ability to function as a Substation Physical Engineer in the Augusta, Maine office.
  • BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering) or BSEET (BS in Electrical Engineering Technology) from an accredited university, preferably with a power option.
  • Understanding of substation equipment and its function.
  • Strong command of the Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Clear English written and verbal communication skills to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.
  • Candidate must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.
  • Desired Education / Experience

  • Experience in electric utility substation design (15kV through 500kV) is a plus.
  • Ability to produce applicable drawings from rough sketches, notes, client examples, and vendor drawings.
  • Engineer Intern (EI) certificate or passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
