• JOB SUMMARY \n\nThe Registered Nurse-Acute functions as a vital member of the healthcare team by demonstrating a customer / patient focus, effective communication, professionalism self-development, and teamwork. The individual utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate comprehensive care provided to selected patient populations and their families. The Registered Nurse-Hospital is expected to demonstrate excellent clinical, problem-solving, interpersonal and leadership skills and make decisions consistent with hospital policies, department protocols / guidelines, and the Wisconsin Nurse Practice Act.\n
• ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS \n\n1. Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate comprehensive patient care.\n\n2. Works independently within scope of practice to provide safe, optimal patient care.\n\n3. Promotes a positive work environment and supports and / or leads change initiatives within the department and organization to achieve effective collaboration and communication.\n\n4. Performs specialized or department-specific nursing functions as educationally prepared to provide safe and efficient patient care.\n\n5. Completes documentation required for patient care in an accurate, concise, and timely manner.\n\n6. Assesses and addresses patient education needs to promote patient self-management upon discharge.\n\n7. Communicates effectively with patients, families, visitors, staff, physicians, and employees of other agencies to create a positive customer service atmosphere.\n\n8. Demonstrates positive problem solving and conflict resolution at intradepartmental and interdepartmental levels to promote effective communication with staff members.\n\n9. Maintains awareness of current quality and safety measures on the unit and follows guidelines or reporting measures to ensure safety of patients, visitors, and staff.\n\n10. Provides appropriate support to team members assigned to the patient and delegates responsibilities to team members within their scope of practice and competency level to address the needs of the patient in an efficient and patient centric manner.\n\n11. Collaborates with other staff to organize the daily workload, prioritize care, and respond to patient crises and emergencies to assure quality patient care and improvement in the care processes.\n\n12. Adheres to departmental policies and procedures and individualizes them to meet patient needs to maintain compliance with organizational, state and federal policy and to maintain patient satisfaction.\n\n13. Regular attendance is required in order to carry out the essential functions of the position.\n\n14. Reviews and meets ongoing competency requirements of the role to maintain the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform, within scope, role specific functions.\n

• JOB QUALIFICATIONS \n
• EDUCATION \n\n_For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation. \n
• Minimum Required : Diploma or degree in nursing.\n
• Preferred / Optional : Bachelor's degree in nursing.\n

• Two years' hospital nursing experience.\n\nThose inpatient facilities participating in the Clinical Nurse Advancement Portfolio (CNAP) clinical ladder, refer to program documents for eligibility to advance / maintain CNAP level.\n
• CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES \n\n_The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position. \n
• Minimum Required : \n\n+ Current State of Wisconsin Registered Nurse License or Nurse Compact License.\n\n+ Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) within three months of employment.\n\n+ Additional department-specific certifications, licenses, or memberships may be required (varies by department / location).\n
