Description

POSITION OVERVIEW :

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Counselor to join our Recovery and Wellness Department in the Oakland Area of Alameda County. The Counselor is responsible for conducting intakes / assessments and providing individual, group, and family counseling, psychoeducation, case management, and other support services for adolescents with a substance use disorder and their families. This position reports to the Program Supervisor and upholds the agency's mission, vision, and values, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work culture.

La Familia offers a recruitment bonus for positions in Behavioral Health or Substance Use Disorder programs that require occupational licenses or certifications, paid throughout the first year of employment.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities :

  • Conduct initial intake and assessments
  • Formulate treatment plans for clients
  • Conduct individual, group, and family counseling sessions
  • Provide assessments and appropriate referrals for educational, training, and supportive services
  • Maintain all client files
  • Advocate for clients with probation officers, law enforcement, etc.
  • Maintain and submit program documentation and reports accurately and timely
  • Develop relationships with referral sources and implement outreach strategies
  • Develop community resources for clients and families
  • Attend collaborative meetings with other agencies
  • Plan and implement educational, social, and recreational activities
  • Complete compliance and performance reports as assigned
  • Participate in agency activities, meetings, and training
  • Participate in Recovery Incentives programs as directed

  • Attend relevant trainings and events
  • Report on key metrics regularly
  • Lead and collaborate on special projects
  • Qualifications & Experience

    Required :

  • Drug and Alcohol Certification (CADC or CATC with number clearly listed on resume)
  • Bilingual Spanish / English
  • Knowledge of alcohol and drug prevention, recovery, and treatment principles
  • Understanding of effects of substance abuse
  • Sensitivity to Latino and African American communities
  • Experience in non-profit and community-based organizations (highly desirable)
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Independent decision-making ability
  • Discretion handling confidential information
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Google Drive
  • Valid CA Driver's license and auto insurance; personal vehicle may be used for work
