POSITION TITLE : Personal Care Assistant

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS REQUIRED :

High School Diploma or equivalent and be 18 years of age or older

REPORTS TO : Building Principal / Director

CONTRACT DAYS WORKED : 9 months

HOURS : 7 per day variable start and ending times

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Work directly with or provide itinerant services for students with disabilities
• Provide partial or full physical assistance to students with feeding, toileting and personal hygiene needs
• Assist with supervision of students
• Assist with implementation of student IEP's i.e. presentation of lesson, demonstration, guided practice, reinforces and reviews concepts and skills, comprehension check, feedback, etc. to an individual or group of students, as per teacher direction
• Assists with implementing related services as stated on an IEP (i.e., OT, PT,
• language development, ATU, Braille, Signing)
• Assist with implementing of behavior management plan
• Assists with scoring and compiling data associated with informal assessment
• Monitors student progress in instructional program and relates finding to supervising teacher
• Performs data collection related to behavior
• Assist with record keeping
• Communicate effectively with students
• Monitor and reinforces student behavior, follows behavior management techniques
• Assist with instructional activity preparation, i.e. developing worksheets, bulletin board displays, gathering resource material, constructs materials, etc. as directed by the teacher
• Assist with clerical duties, i.e. running off papers, grading papers, record keeping, filing, attendance, lunch count, etc.
• Assist with general housekeeping duties in classroom, i.e. maintain and organize
• materials and supplies, clean instructional equipment / apparatus, etc.
• Perform physical tasks i.e. heavy lifting to assist physically involved students, physical restraint of student in an emergency situation for safety of other students / staff, and handling of instructional equipment
• Other nonacademic responsibilities outside the classroom, i.e. hall duty, bus duty, run errands and any other duties relative to the needs of students with disabilities and the smooth operation of the classroom
• Operate instructional and office equipment
• Attend of minimum of 15 hours in-service training for your first year employed, and 10 hours in-service training each year after that first year
• Attend faculty meetings as requested by Director of Special Education or building administrator
• Follow the policies and procedures of the school district
• Maintain a positive interpersonal relationship with students / parents / patrons and educational staff
• Maintain confidentiality of student information
• Implement students occupational / physical therapy programs as directed by immediate supervisor
• Complete assigned activities conscientiously and within established timeframe
• Work without constant supervision
• Prompt and regular attendance
• Withstand pressure and remain calm : in crisis or conflict situations, changing conditions within the job, schedule changes, etc.
• Participate as a team member in the resolution of problems
• Act as liaison between teachers
• Carry on daily routine if supervising teacher must step out of room for a brief period of time or if there is a substitute teacher
• Operate, program; maintain and assist with instructing student in use of assistive technology devised (ATD) when needed

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : Wage and work calendar to be established by the Board of

Education.

EVALUATION : Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the

provisions of the Board's Policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
