Job Summary

Provide support services in the operation and maintenance of an academic or research laboratory to include performing analyses; setup, operation, maintenance and cleaning of equipment; and maintaining stock of supplies. Specific duties will be determined based on assignment and unit needs. Job Summary You will be contributing to one or more of the following LuminAI-based projects :

LuminAI : This is the ¿original¿ version, which is a five-module pipeline and one-panel design that allows open improvisation with Vai (the agent). Specific work needed is implementing the Body Action Taxonomy within the pipeline.

LuminAIx : This is an ongoing AI literacy installation with three panels that engage learners in public spaces with 1) AI knowledge representation; 2) having a "dance battle" with the improv AI dancer, and 3) learning a bit about how it (and machine learning more broadly) works. You will specifically be working on the implementation of panels one and three.

LuminAI at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport : We have the opportunity to update the current version of LuminAI to be shown at the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson airport for half a year. Specific work needed on this project involves designing a LuminAI Lite version that can be optimized and run for eight plus hours a day, as well as collecting data on the installation in public and the possibility of integrating new sensor technology into the agent (femtobolts)

LuminAI Duet : a new project offshoot, focused on creating two LuminAI installations (potentially one in Atlanta and the other in France or Istanbul) where local users in a public space can train the AI on their "local dance moves", which are then shared with the AI across seas for users in that other country to dance with an AI that uses the other country's dance moves. This project is seen as a form of AI-mediated cultural exchange and has the potential for publication and festival submissions.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -

Setup, operate and maintain instruments and other equipment used in performing lab tests and experiments.

Job Duty 2 -

Order supplies and materials as required; maintain records.

Job Duty 3 -

Setup laboratory media / equipment for demonstrations.

Job Duty 4 -

May clean instruments, glassware and other lab equipment.

Job Duty 5 -

Prepare and process laboratory samples for use in assigned tests.

Job Duty 6 -

Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

High school diploma, GED Certificate or Vocational School Diploma

Other Required Qualifications

Ability to work outside of typical business hours as needed, potentially including but not limited to evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Required Experience

Up to two years of job related experience

Unity software experience

Proposed Salary We are looking for a candidate who can commit to 20 hours of work per week for $30- / hr Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SKILLS

This job requires working knowledge in the use of instrumentation and other lab equipment, laboratory processes and procedures specific to assigned lab. Skills in inventory management and the use of specialized computer applications is required.

Other Information The LuminAI project has been, through course collaborations and a 3-year-long NSF M3X grant, iteratively designed and developed for over a decade. It is an AI that "learns how to dance by dancing with people" and bootstraps how it recognizes and reasons about the human body through a knowledge representation based on dance movement theory. A collaboration with the KSU School of Dance last year yielded the world's first human / AI collaboratively improvised dance performance. This project will promote the progress of science by studying human co-creative practice between advanced dancers to better understand human co-creativity in action and to inform the design and development of co-creative AI technology. This work will inform the long-term development of more effective interfaces in a wide range of applications that involve integrated mind, machine, and motor function, such as physical therapy, design brainstorming, or future experiences with robots in the home. This project also supports K-12, undergraduate, graduate, and public education through outreach and mentorship. You¿ll be collaborating weekly with the team to coordinate on deadlines and any changes.
