CNC Field Service, Retrofit Engineer

90-100% Travel

$38.00-55.00 / hr

40-60 hours per week

Summary :

The Retrofit Engineer will act as engineering point-of-contact to cross functional project teams and customers. Facilitate cross coordination between engineering disciplines (Controls, Mechanical, Electrical, Process, and Software). Manage engineering deliverables required for proposals, development, and sold projects. The individual will have design control, guidance, and release responsibilities.

Responsibilities :

  • Plan, develop and manage engineering deliverables and resources.
  • Function both as a design contributor and team leader.
  • Participate in all phases of a project from proposal through final customer acceptance.
  • Coordinate technical teams to achieve goals while minimizing project cost and risk.
  • Identify project risks and opportunities.
  • Monitor engineering budget and schedule for multiple projects.
  • Working knowledge of engineering-related processes from order entry to installation.
  • Lead design reviews, including hazard analysis for assessing safety of designs as well as FMEA.
  • Review, collect, and implement lessons learned.
  • Provide technical guidance to peers and assigned team members.

Education / Experience :

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in an Engineering discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5 or more years' experience in the machine tool industry.

    • Highly Proficient with :

  • Siemens and / or FANUC control components including servo motors, spindle motors, and drives associated with CNC integration.
  • Electrical components associated with CNC integration.
  • Electrical schematics using AutoCAD.

    • Ability to :

  • Develop ladder logic including easy screens
  • Develop and set all related CNC and PMC parameters
  • Write custom macro programs related to tool changes, pallet changers, etc.
  • Power up and debug a machine from start to finish of a CNC integration
  • Load machine parameters and ladder logic into Siemens and / or FANUC controls
  • Setup and test special machine functions related to customer's needs
  • Schedule project tasks and control costs

    • Working knowledge of :

  • Mechanical, Electrical, and Controls disciplines
  • Machine tool end-user processes
  • ISO standards
  • SAP, MS Project, and MS Office
