Job Summary

The Vehicle Systems Division (VSD) sits at the center of the ideas and data behind current and future systems supplying innovative research and development; technical evaluations during the acquisition process; conceptual and detailed design; assembly, integration, and test; and operational support. The Propulsion Department within VSD develops and evaluates propulsion technologies and systems for current and future government and commercial applications. As a Propulsion Engineer (Senior Member of Technical Staff / Project Engineer) – Propulsion Engineering in the Propulsion Department, you will collaborate with our NASA customer and industry contractors to ensure the success of high-priority human space missions with challenging propulsion requirements. Your work may involve propulsion system development, sustainment, manufacturing, testing, and operations for multiple programs. You must be willing to learn a broad range of new technologies and systems and confidently advise customers in making critical decisions. The ideal candidate will be hired into VSD / Engineering and Technology Group (ETG) and will primarily support the Civil Systems Group (CSG) to work with NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) Engineering Directorate's Propulsion and Power Systems Division on the Gateway Program.

This is a full-time position based at NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston, TX, which requires 100% onsite work.

What You'll Be Doing

Supporting the development and sustainment of advanced human spacecraft propulsion systems for NASA, using propulsion experience to enable more responsive operations :

• Serve as the Propulsion Sub-System Lead for the Habitat and Logistics Outpost (HALO) and / or Propulsion & Power Element (PPE) in the NASA Lunar Gateway
• Lead Partner working group meetings, including planning agenda topics related to current, forward risks, issues, and challenges
• Develop understanding of PPE / HALO spacecraft and operational constraints to inform and assist the System Manager and Refueling Lead in detailed CONOPS development
• Understand the Certification of Flight Readiness (CoFR) process and aid the System Manager in developing and gathering Objective Evidence to build flight rationale
• Communicate mission baseline, risk, and issues to mission management teams across NASA and industry partners
• Travel to commercial partners' facilities for oversight of critical operations and technical meetings
• Lead presentations / discussions with other sub-systems and working groups related to PPE chemical propulsion refueling needs and designs
• Develop console tools and train under the System Manager to become Mission Support Personnel in the Mission Evaluation Room (MER) during operations
