Description :

The Surgical Technician assists with surgical procedures in scrubbing duties.

They are responsible for preparing for procedures and assisting the operative team, including preparation and maintenance of sterile supplies.

They must create and maintain a sterile field.

They should inspect sterile items for contamination before opening.

They must anticipate the need for equipment and supplies before the case begins.

They assure all equipment is functioning before use.

They operate and maintain mechanical, electrical, and air-powered equipment according to manufacturer's instructions.

They scrub all surgical procedures and understand the special needs, techniques, and requirements of the individual surgeon.

They must have the ability to scrub specialty surgeries without the presence of a sales representative, including sports medicine and trauma.

They assist with the completion of operative charges and recording of hardware used during procedures.

They collect specimens and cultures by verifying source and correct tissue identification with the surgeon.
