Title : UI / UX Designer

Location : 4601 W. Guadalupe, Austin, Texas 78751

Duration : Until 1 / 31 / 2026 with possible extension

Last date for submission : September 4, 2025 (2.00 PM-CST)

Note : Position will be 2 days remote with 3 days onsite (Mon, Tue & Thurs). In-person interview mandatory.

Description Of Services

The role of UI / UX designers is central to improving accessibility, usability, and responsiveness of the HHSC eligibility systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead user research initiatives and journey mapping to gain deep insights into user interactions and identify opportunities for optimization.
  • Proven UX Design Experience : Extensive portfolio demonstrating expertise in user research, information architecture, wireframing, prototyping (low and high-fidelity), and usability testing.
  • Develop wireframes, prototypes, and visual hierarchies in accordance with established accessibility guidelines and branding standards.
  • Collaborate with Code for America and cross-functional teams to apply industry best practices in UI / UX design.
  • Engage in discovery workshops, feedback sessions, and sprint planning to ensure that design decisions are aligned with business objectives.
  • Employ a comprehensive suite of tools—including Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, and Hotjar—and implement usability testing, responsive design, and SEO optimization strategies.
  • Experience with AI / ML Interfaces : Demonstrated experience designing user interfaces for systems that incorporate Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning, with a focus on explainable AI (XAI) and human-AI interaction principles.
  • Complex System Design : Ability to understand and design for complex business logic and regulatory requirements, particularly in domains like government services, healthcare, or finance.
  • Data Visualization : Skill in presenting complex data and AI insights in a clear, concise, and understandable visual format.
  • Empathy and User Advocacy : Deep commitment to understanding user needs and advocating for user-centered design principles.
  • Collaboration & Communication : Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and present design solutions to stakeholders.
  • Understanding of Accessibility Standards : Knowledge of WCAG and other accessibility guidelines to ensure inclusive design.
  • Bonus : Experience with eligibility determination systems or similar rule-based, data-intensive applications.

Minimum Requirements

  • 11 Required : Hands-on experience designing user interfaces and experiences for enterprise systems, including wireframes, prototypes, and visual hierarchies using tools like Figma, Adobe XD, and Sketch.
  • 11 Required : Demonstrated ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical teams, translating business needs into intuitive design solutions that align with accessibility and branding standards.
  • 10 Required : Experience applying UX design principles such as hierarchy, contrast, and alignment to create responsive and accessible web and mobile interfaces.
  • 10 Required : Experience creating wireframes and prototypes that support agile development cycles, including sketch-to-visual fidelity transitions.
  • 5 Preferred : Experience designing graphical diagrams and visual narratives to communicate timelines, workflows, and system architecture.
  • 3 Preferred : Demonstrated ability to facilitate design workshops and feedback sessions with stakeholders, ensuring alignment with business goals and user needs.
  • 3 Preferred : Bachelor's degree in graphic design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or related field. Equivalent experience may be substituted.
  • 3 Preferred : Strong multitasking skills with the ability to manage multiple design streams across concurrent work effort.
