Audio Visual Systems Engineer
Auburn University is seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled Audio Visual (AV) Support Engineer to join our team. This role is essential in supporting instructional technology across campus, ensuring seamless AV experiences for faculty and students. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with strong communication skills and an understanding of AV systems, networking, and classroom technology.
Essential Functions
- Provide technical support for instructors and other end users across classrooms, lecture halls, meeting spaces, and other AV-enabled environments.
- Manage and mentor student workers, ensuring high-quality support delivery and fostering professional development.
- Coordinate Return Merchandise Authorizations (RMAs) for defective or damaged AV equipment, ensuring timely resolution and minimal service disruption.
- Assist in the design and implementation of AV systems for both new and existing spaces, with attention to usability, scalability, and long-term support.
- Track, document, and resolve technical issues using ticketing systems and internal documentation tools, ensuring consistent and transparent support practices.
- Collaborate with IT and networking teams to ensure proper network configuration, including VLANs and subnets for AV devices.
- Maintain and update AV system documentation, including schematics, signal flow diagrams, and endpoint inventories.
- Stay current with AV technology trends and recommend improvements or upgrades to enhance system performance, reliability, and user experience.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 3 years relevant experience OR Associate’s degree and 7 years relevant experience OR High School / GED and 11 years relevant experience.
Area of Experience : Experience in advanced audio visual systems, infrastructure, operating systems, and applications to include functional experience in the architecture, design, and development of AV.Minimum Skills and Abilities
Proven experience with audio systems, signal flow, and AV troubleshooting.Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including IP addressing, VLANs, and subnetting.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.Desired Qualifications
Experience with AV control systems (e.g., AMX, Extron) is a plus.CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) certification is a plus.Experience in a higher education environment.Familiarity with AV-over-IP technologies.Ability to read and create AV system schematics.Knowledge of classroom capture and streaming technologies.Equal Opportunity Compliance Statement
