Dental Hygienist
Position Summary
Assists dentist in providing oral health care to patients by cleaning, scaling and polishing teeth. Takes and processes X-rays. Records evaluation of mouth condition and extent of prophylaxis on dental chart to provide dentist with information for more complete diagnosis and subsequent treatment if needed. Examines patients’ teeth and gums, recording the presence of diseases or abnormalities. Advises and instructs patient on proper dental care and diet for goo dental health.
Minimum Qualifications
Work Experience
One-year experience as a licensed dental hygienist preferred.
Education
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school required.
Certifications / Licensure
Licensed as a Dental Hygienist in the state of Kentucky required.
Job Specific Performance Standards

- Assists dentist as needed to provide customary chair side procedures of a dental hygienist such as scaling and root planing, fluoride treatments, polishing and application of sealants.
- Updates patient’s health history at each appointment.
- Takes, develops and mounts intra and extra oral radiographs used in diagnosis and treatment of patients. Records evaluation of mouth condition and extent of prophylaxis on dental chart to provide dentist with information for more complete diagnosis and subsequent treatment if needed.
- Prepares patient for prophylaxis. Cleans, scales and polishes teeth. Flosses and rinses, applies fluorides and other cavity preventing agents to arrest dental decay.
- Examines patients’ teeth and gums, recording the presence of diseases or abnormalities. Charts existing restorations, missing teeth and pocket depths, if needed.
- Recalls patients in a timely manner for appropriate follow-up care. Schedules and confirms appointments and processes dental records as required.
- Records treatment results on patient’s dental record; advises and instructs patient on proper dental care and diet for good health utilizing visual aids as needed. Provides instructional materials as required.
- Daily stocks and cleans work area and maintains equipment and dental hygiene instruments according to current sterilization procedures or manufacturers instructions.
- Consistently follows all OSHA guidelines, Universal and Corporate policies concerning infection control procedures and policies.
- Reports inventory needs, safety violations and other related concerns to Director.
