Senior Consultant, Ports and Marine Civil / Structural Engineering
WSP USA is seeking a Senior Consultant, Ports and Marine Engineering to join our National Maritime Practice Group. This position can be based out of Irvine, San Diego, San Francisco-CA, Miami-FL, Portland-OR, Seattle-WA, or Houston-TX.
This opportunity provides engineering support to other technical staff, engineers, and project managers for the development, design, construction, and / or inspection of structures and facilities for port, marine, and intermodal rail terminal projects in the public and private sector. Facilities may include piers, wharves, port and upland marine terminals, seawalls / bulkheads, dry docks, marinas and other nearshore / offshore facilities. Delivers work products at a quality level that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
Your Impact
- Provide leadership for engineering tasks including collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, survey data, technical reports and drawings, and / or other data matrices for project development, design, and construction.
- Lead development of construction plans and schedules, specifications, and cost estimates for ports and marine projects. Prepare and implement site safety activity plans and coordinate field work activities.
- Lead cross-functional teams to execute project work on mid-level projects or multiple concurrent smaller projects. Collaborate with other engineers and larger multi-disciplinary teams on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded projects. Track budgets and milestone progress; support completion of Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E).
- Write technical reports and documentation of findings using sketches, calculations, Excel spreadsheets, technical drawings, and engineering software (including SAP2000 or similar FEM tools).
- Apply higher-order engineering techniques to develop design requirements, incorporating marine-practice standards and specifications. Identify project site, design and construction risks and provide mitigation solutions.
- Create finite element models for fixed and floating marine structures subject to gravity, live loads, environmental loads, and seismic loads.
- Prepare design documentation for structural components including steel and concrete systems, deep foundation systems, and substructure / superstructure elements.
- Prepare project task budgets and schedules for review.
- Prepare and present findings and recommendations to internal / external team members and clients.
- Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients professionally.
- Conduct overwater and / or over-deck inspections of port terminals and visually assess conditions of elements.
- Adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies; exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources.
- Complete assigned trainings and perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program5 to 7 years of relevant experience in engineering with marine project design experience (rehabilitation and new design)EIT or similar certification / licensureProficiency in analysis and design of marine projects including SAP2000 or equivalent FEM tools; design and detailing of reinforced and prestressed concrete and steel per ACI, AISC, PCI, and / or AASHTOExperience with AutoCAD and REVIT and other BIM toolsExperience in ports and marine project constructionUnderstanding of multidisciplinary team coordination and design / document standardsStrong interpersonal and communication skills; proficient technical report writingSelf-leadership with attention to detail; ability to work independently and in a teamCommitment to workplace safety and compliance with policiesOccasional travel may be required; willingness to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweekPreferred Qualifications
Master's Degree in Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited program with 7+ years of port / marine design experienceProfessional Engineer licensure strongly preferredFamiliarity with domestic / international marine terminal codes (e.g., MOTEMS, ASCE COPRI, PIANC) and DoD criteriaExperience with LSDYNA or related softwareActive participation in local professional practice organizationsExperience with marine, port, and coastal construction laws and complianceField investigation or construction support experience for port / marine structuresCommercial dive license (ADCI or DCBC) is a plusCompensation and Benefits

Compensation : Expected Salary (all locations) : $80,000 - $120,000
