Incumbent of this position performs carpentry work and supervises skilled inmate craftsmen (5 10) in the Maintenance Department. Louisiana State Penitentiary (LSP) is the state's only Class 1A facility and the only correctional facility providing custody and control of adult male inmates who have been sentenced to death.

Job Duties :

• Engages in and / or supervises skilled inmate craftsmen in performing such skilled tasks as roofing and re-roofing homes and other buildings located on the penitentiary grounds, cabinet making, laying brick and concrete blocks, installation of various types of floor tile, hanging doors, sheetrock and paneling, construction of screen doors and window and door frames, and pouring and finishing concrete.
• Inspects areas of the institution to determine whether needed repairs are necessary and estimates the costs of repairs. Informs Maintenance Superintendent when emergency or routine repairs are needed, along with cost estimates.
• Work with adult male inmates of all custody levels minimum, medium, maximum (death row), and protective custody.
• Work for (support) the Facility Maintenance Manager and supervise inmates.
