Summary

The Music Teacher is responsible for introducing the world of music to children ages 6 weeks through age 5 using finger play, songs, simple instruments, and a variety of instructional materials, resources, and experiences in a multi-faceted preschool program. This position is 4 hours one day a week with an opportunity for additional hours.

Reports to School Director / Assistant Director

Part Time : 4 hours one day a week with opportunity for additional hours, $15.50-$19.00 / hour

Duties

  • Introduce children to the world of music using finger play, songs, simple instruments, and a variety of materials, resources, and experiences.
  • Prepare and lead our annual Christmas program and spring concert.
  • Complete lesson plans and goals in a timely fashion.
  • Ensure the safety of each child enrolled in the class at all times while in your care.
  • Serve as a role model for the children in the areas of attitude, speech and actions on a daily basis and treat each child with dignity and respect for his / her cultural background.
  • Accept and maintain responsibility on a daily basis for the ordered arrangement, appearance, décor and cleanliness of the learning environment.

Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or a complementary degree is preferred but not required. Musical background preferred.
  • Must meet Virginia licensure requirements and child care certification as necessary.
  • Pragmatic experience in a school setting.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Ability to perform physical labor as needed for the position.
  • Willing to become familiar with licensing standards, rules and regulations in regards to the health and safety of students.
