The Assistant Project Manager (APM) role is a project management position that requires on-site work. This position provides leadership to project teams and assists in decision-making that impacts project outcomes. The APM’s primary duty is to ensure that the work is performed safely and organized, complying with the quality program and the initial specifications. An APM’s job is to guarantee Butler-Cohen’s commitment to building the right way and by the most cost-effective means while maintaining or improving the schedule and client relations.

Responsibilities

Time Management

  • Prioritize tasks across multiple projects; understand project lifecycle.

Cost Management

  • Manage financials; process change events, COs, and PCOs in Procore.
  • Job Coordination

  • Review submittals; support scope coordination and schedule updates.
  • Meetings

  • Contribute to and lead meetings; resolve issues with PM support.
  • Document Control

  • Maintain drawings / specs; manage submittals and long-lead items.
  • RFIs

  • Draft / manage RFIs; track responses and communicate impacts.
  • Material Expediting

  • Maintain procurement log; track deliveries and lead times.
  • Quality Control

  • Support QC meetings; verify material compliance and installation.
  • Project Administration

  • Assist with meeting prep, pull planning, change tracking, and scheduling.
  • Team Support

  • Provide general support to PM and Superintendent.
  • Project Closeout

  • Manage closeout submittals and punch list documentation.
  • Business Development

  • Attend networking events; build industry relationships.
  • Qualifications

  • 3-5+ years of construction management experience on commercial construction projects
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction science, construction management, or similar
  • Skills / Abilities Required

  • Flexible schedule, including weekends
  • Willing to travel or relocate based on project needs
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Able to navigate active jobsites (stairs, scaffolding, ladders, etc.)
  • Physically capable of kneeling, standing, squatting, and bending
  • Builds positive, professional relationships across all levels
  • Works independently with strong problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with Procore preferred
  • Familiar with construction documents (plans, specs, submittals, etc.)
  • Knowledge of local safety, health, and quality standards
  • Understanding of OSHA requirements and site visit protocols
