Remarkable people, trusted by clients to design and advance the world. Wood are actively seeking Expressions of Interest for Senior Electrical Engineer role to support future growth in our expanding business.

The projects team focuses on delivering across FEED, Pre-FEED, Brownfield, and Greenfield scopes of work. In this role, you will be responsible for the execution of project work in accordance with the project execution plan, including Wood and / or Project Procedures on Safety and Quality Control within the man-hour, cost and the project schedule targets.

This is a long-term assignment based in Qatar.

  • Job Responsibilities

  • Self-starter with the ability to produce electrical deliverables with minimal input or guidance
  • Good understanding of international codes and standards and their application
  • High level of competency with electrical system design (e.g., single line diagrams, protection and control schemes)
  • Experience developing and issuing deliverables such as Electrical Design Basis, Specifications and Standards, Load Schedules, SLDs, Protection and metering schemes, calculations (load, cable sizing, battery, equipment sizing); familiarity with power system studies (short circuit, load flow, transient, motor starting, harmonics), relay settings, power adequacy, lighting / earthing / lightning protection deliverables, electrical layouts, area classification layouts, data sheets for major equipment, and preparation of enquiry packages for HV / LV switchgear, transformers, drive systems, UPS
  • Reviewing and checking electrical deliverables for accuracy and alignment with the scope prior to issue
  • Familiarity with SKM, ETAP or SPEL software packages
  • May serve as Lead Engineer and / or discipline technical authority on small to medium complexity projects; responsible for cost, schedule, resource allocation and risk
  • May supervise a small work group of engineers and designers with coaching from Lead Engineer
  • Assist in managerial tasks : assigning tasks, planning and coordinating portions of engineering work, preparing scopes, schedules, and budgets, attending project meetings, developing less-experienced professionals
  • Takes responsibility for challenging electrical engineering tasks and delivering scope on large / complex projects
  • Review vendors' quotations, prepare technical quotation evaluation, and recommend final technically acceptable vendor; technically approve Order Variation Summaries
  • Prepare and develop material take-offs for the electrical discipline
  • Hold coordination and engineering review meetings with vendors of major equipment as required
  • Participate in project reviews, design reviews, audits and other workshops
  • Strong understanding of plant design and equipment layout
  • Liaise with clients on technical matters as required
  • Complete site surveys and data gathering for brownfield scope; develop site survey reports
  • Provide practical skills for site visits and site surveys, site queries, discussions with suppliers / vendors / contractors / clients, and site-based activities
  • Demonstrate awareness of commercial and technical risks, managing these within the scope of work and highlighting significant issues to the Lead Engineer
  • Qualifications

  • Engineering Degree majoring in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
  • Proven core Electrical Engineering skills, including design experience in the Oil & Gas sector
  • Experience of working in a variety of projects and phases, including greenfield and brownfield, on and offshore, Pre-FEED through to EPC, with a focus on offshore upstream
  • Familiarity with electrical design tools such as SPEL and Aveva Electrical
  • Experienced with Electrical HAZOP / SAFOP
  • Experienced in ETAP
  • Ability to influence and lead junior engineers and designers for deliverables
  • Customer focus and ability to respond to customer needs while achieving project and corporate objectives
  • Analytical and innovative skills to manage new technology

  • Take accountability for targets and supervise engineering and design resources as required
  • Have experience working within a small project office, supporting cross-discipline activities
