Job Description
JOB OBJECTIVE : The Genetic Identity Instructional Design Intern will support the development of training materials for Promega's GI products, including capillary electrophoresis instrumentation, STR kits, software tools, and forensic workflows. Working under the guidance of the Instructional Designer, this role will assist with content development, media preparation, and eLearning course assembly.
This internship provides exposure to instructional design practices, hands-on experience with digital learning tools, and the opportunity to contribute to training that supports GI staff, distributors, and customers worldwide.
CORE DUTIES :
1. Assist in drafting training content from SOPs, technical manuals, and SME transcripts into storyboards.
2. Support mapping of learning objectives and help align assessments with objectives.
3. Contribute to the creation of draft knowledge check and assessment questions.
4. Help source, edit, and organize images, screenshots, and graphics for training modules.
5. Learn to assemble draft modules in Articulate Rise / Storyline by importing content and images.
6. Assist in formatting and implementing interactive knowledge checks using established templates.
7. Help organize and maintain digital media libraries with consistent versioning and documentation.
8. Assist with transcript editing, captions, and preparation of learner handouts.
9. Participate in quality control reviews to ensure accuracy and consistency with technical manuals.
10. Apply Promega templates, branding, and accessibility standards under direction of the Instructional Designer.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS :
1. Current enrollment as an undergraduate (sophomore level or higher) or graduate student in Instructional Design, Education, Communication, Life Sciences, or a related field.
2. Strong attention to detail with proven organizational skills.
3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
4. Willingness to learn new systems and follow established style and design guidelines.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
1. Familiarity with eLearning tools such as Articulate Storyline, Rise, or Captivate.
2. Interest in graphic editing tools (Snagit, Adobe Illustrator, or Photoshop).
3. Background or coursework in molecular biology, forensic DNA, or related life sciences.
4. Strong written communication skills, with the ability to simplify technical content.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
1. Ability to remain stationary for several hours at a time.
2. Ability to move objects up to 20 pounds.
3. Ability to use a computer and Microsoft Office applications for extended periods.
4. Ability to travel between buildings on the Madison campus as needed.
